Thèmes de recherche : Mon activité de recherche est consacrée aux processus qui gouvernent les transformations des écosystèmes sur des périodes de temps supérieures à 100 ans.
Les méthodes mises en jeu s'inspirent donc en toute logique des techniques de la paléoécologie.
L'objectif étant la compréhension des processus écologique, cela implique la mise en œuvre de stratégies analytiques permettant les reconstructions à hautes résolutions temporelles et spatiales.
Les mécanismes qui m'intéressent sont essentiellement les perturbations et notamment les incendies de végétation, mais aussi les processus de déprises/emprises agropastorales.
Je travaille surtout sur les 10 derniers millénaires, caractérisés par de faibles variations des changements climatiques (interglaciaire Holocène).
Les écosystèmes de mes investigations sont en général les zones de montagnes (Alpes, Pyrénées) et boréales (Canada, Suède), et secondairement les régions méditerranéennes.
Les incendies sont donc considérés comme des variables explicatives des changements écosystémiques (végétation, sol, érosion), mais aussi comme une variable expliquant ou décrivant (proxy data) des changements globaux (anthropique, climatiques).

Mes principaux travaux font états :
1) Mise en évidence d'incendies dans les Alpes au cours de l'Holocène, alors que les feux sont aujourd'hui inexistants ;
2) Baisse de la limite supérieure des arbres depuis 3000 ans dans les Alpes ;
3) Rôle du climat sur la dynamique des feux ;
4) Faible réponse de la forêt boréale aux changements de fréquence des feux ;
5) Lien entre dynamique globale du carbone atmosphérique et histoire globale des incendies ;
6) Développement de méthodes spécifiques pour l'étude des paléo-feux et notamment de reconstruction des intervales (fréquence).

Mes principaux projets en cours :
1) CONSECOL Conséquences Écologiques à long terme des feux (climatiques et anthropiques) sur le fonctionnement et la diversité d'un écosystème de montagne (ACI-FNS ECCO - INSU)
2) IMPACTHOS Incendies, Modèles et Paléo-ClimaT Holocène en Euope du Sud (CNRS - ECLIPSE).

Objectif : apporter des notions de base en écologie forestière ; on mettra l'accent sur l'histoire des forêts, les facteurs physiques, les perturbations et la diversité spécifique pour comprendre l'organisation structurelle des forêts.

- UE Paléoécologie continentale (resp. : Laurent Bremond , Montpellier)
Programme : Le cours aura pour principal objectif de fournir aux étudiants les bases théoriques de l'étude des paléoenvironnements et leur intérêt dans le cadre plus global des changements climatiques en cours et à venir (compréhension du fonctionnement des écosystèmes actuels et leur évolution vis-à-vis des changements climatiques et anthropiques ; méthodes de confrontation modèles/proxy ; limites conceptuelles et analytiques ; …). L'étude de plusieurs marqueurs biologiques fossiles sera illustrée à l'aide d'exemples concrets (anthracologie, dendrochronologie, macrorestes végétaux, palynologie, phytolithes …). La partie pratique consistera en une sortie de terrain sur un gisement paléoécologique où des prélèvements seront effectués puis analysés en laboratoire afin d'envisager l'évolution de l'environnement végétal du site au cours du temps.
